Job Overview

The European finance team is responsible for the financial management of Outbrain across 7 countries (UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands). The Junior Management Accountant will play a key role in ensuring the maintenance and integrity of certain account ledgers.

The Junior Management Accountant will report to the Management Accountant and represents a great opportunity to gain experience in many aspects of a finance department in a rapidly growing digital organisation.

Your first year should look like this:

In your first month you should find your bearings, you will learn the various accounting systems of Outbrain required for the role that will be used day in, day out and get comfortable with how the team operates.

After 3 months, you will be an expert in recording and reconciling general ledger accounts related to various aspects of financial reporting including cost of sales, opex, prepayments and accruals. You will be a key point of contact on queries related to these accounting areas and work on building key relationships with other Outbrain teams to ensure accuracy of the records.

After 6 months, you will have successfully closed several months, making additional contributions to the efficiency of the existing processes. You will have an in depth understanding of our financial landscape, key agencies/publishers and vendors. You will analyse and report on key metrics as related to your area to help support corporate finance and wider business decision making.

When you finish up your first year, you will be an essential part of the accounting team, having improved processes and workflows in several areas. You will assist in evaluating, creating and implementing changes to improve departmental policies, procedures and controls to systems and processes.

Main Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain the general ledger, post journals, complete month end using Outbrain’s financial systems and ensure smooth finance operations across Outbrain UK and several European subsidiaries.
  • Maintain reconciliation of key accounts including prepayments, accruals and fixed assets.
  • Manage inter-company transactions and reconcilitations.
  • Prepare monthly pack for submission to external accountants across Europe.
  • Manage PO process for publisher/non-publishers in Netsuite
  • Prepare Quarterly VAT Return for UK and prepare information for other EU VAT returns
  • Assist with overseeing and supervising the AP function
  • Liaising with HR/Marketing departments to ensure alignment with yearly budget
  • Assist with the year end audit and statutory accounts process.
  • Support the Management Accountant and Finance Manager Europe with various ad-hoc tasks.
  • Support the development of finance functions and processes and assist in testing of system upgrades and automation project

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • 2 years+ accounting experience in a similar role
  • Part qualified either CIMA or ACCA
  • Forensic attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills
  • Highly organised and self-motivated
  • Proactive attitude – ability to take initiative to get things done
  • Good level of Excel skills (Vlookups, SumIf formulas, etc)
  • Be motivated with an eye for process improvement
  • To be able to work as part of a busy team, who are committed to building staff relationships and managing company accounts accurately

Desired Skills but not Essential:

  • Good quality degree in relevant discipline
  • Demonstrates interest in media, advertising and technology, preferably having worked in this industry
  • Experience of working in or with other European countries would be helpful
  • A second European language would be a bonus
